Roadmap 2030 for India-UK future relations launched during India-UK Virtual Summit
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a virtual bilateral summit. During this summit, the two leaders adopted an ambitious "Roadmap 2030". This will help in enhancing bilateral relations between the countries.
Also, the two leaders launched Enhanced Trade Partnership, which will be implemented through a 1.4 billion investment deal.
Roadmap 2030
- India and the UK agreed to work closely in the development of India's indigenous Light Combat Aircraft Mark 2.
- They will work together to ensure ambitious results in COP-26.
- This roadmap will expand the India-UK health partnership. This includes vaccines, supply chains, other medical products.
- The two leaders agreed to remove trade barriers between the countries and initiate negotiations for a free trade agreement. It should be noted that India and the European Union had been trying to sign a free trade agreement for a long time. They are yet to finalize the conversation. After Brexit, Britain is now free to sign agreements with India.
- They agreed on a new collaboration on maritime domain awareness.
- Both countries are working on the Logistic Memorandum of Understanding.
- He highlighted his commitments on the Indo-Pacific.
- The two leaders agreed to build government-to-government cooperation on the need for India's future fighter aircraft.
- They agreed to strengthen cooperation in United Nations Security Council, UNFCCC, G20, WTO, World Bank, IMF, etc.
- They agreed to promote Track 5 and Track 2 dialogue between think tanks of countries.
- They will promote engagement in the Indian Ocean Rim Association framework.
- The two countries will work together to implement a comprehensive migration and mobility partnership by 2022. The UK has adopted a new skills-based immigration policy.
- The UK-India Young Entrepreneurship Forum will be launched.
- "India-UK Together" (SAATH-SAATH) will be implemented. It is a joint cultural exchange program.
- Cooperation will be encouraged to accelerate the development of GIFT City.
