Know more about UDID
The UDID Project is being implemented since 2016. The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has recently made it mandatory for all states and union territories to issue certificates of disability using the UDID portal only. It will come into effect from 1st June,21.
UDID stands for Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities Project. The project aims to provide a universal ID and disability certificate for persons with disabilities.
About UDID Project
The project aims to create a national database for persons with disabilities. In addition, it seeks to issue a UDID, i.e. Unique Disability Identity Card for persons with disabilities.
Project Highlights
The goal of this project is to achieve the following:
- A centralized web application for the online availability of data on persons with disabilities across the country.
- Filling the online form and submitting the application form for the disability certificate
- Speed up the process of calculating the percentage of disability by hospitals
- Online updating and renewal of information about persons with disabilities
Disability covered under the scheme
The disabled persons involved in this project are based on the Americans with Disabilities Act, 1995. The following disabilities are included in this project:
- Cerebral Palsy
- Blindness
- Low vision
- Locomotor Disability
- Leprosy-cured
- Mental retardation
- Mental Illness
- Hearing Impairment
Data to be collected
The Government of India collects only the following details from an individual to create a UDID:
- Personal information, including their address
- Detailed employment information
- Identification Details
- Disability details
Benefits of UDID Project
- This project will remove the need to make multiple copies of documents.
- It will be a single document of verification and identification required to avail various benefits in future.
- This will help track the beneficiaries' financial progress at all levels starting from the village, block, district, state, and national level.
