World Development Report 2021

Report recommendations
Five recommendations are provided in this report:
1. The new social contract for data: Global experts recommend that civil society and education improve transparency and contribute to development.
2. Increased use of data for real value: Experts have underlined the gaps in understanding the data and its governance in developing contexts. Efforts should be made to improve data literacy and expand outreach, especially to vulnerable groups.
3. Equitable access: Experts have expressed concern that public and private data systems do not cover poor people or vulnerable groups. Therefore, it recommends, marginal people need better representation in data systems.
Protection from data misuse: Experts advise on governance and systems that the data flow they use should be ensured that they are ethical and secure.
Integrated National Data System: Experts highlight difficulties for countries that suffer from poverty and poor governance in designing high-quality data systems. Therefore, they recommend increasing investment in physical and human capital for integrated national data systems.
World Development Report
